MUSEUM ANNIVERSARY & FUTURE PROSPECTS

We had all been working very hard and the garden was looking good due to the work of our garden ladies Betty, Flo and Joyce. So we decided to have a party to celebrate our 15th birthday. Yes our 15th, how time flies.

Guests were invited to a night of 'martinis, marshmallows and moonlight'. The anniversary was hosted by our long time patron, former Premier and local heroine, Joan Kirner.

We had fires and sausages. Aboriginal face painting and 'Pitter Patter Fairywing' for the kids. We had cellos and Didgeridoos. And of course martinis and marshmallows. All under a full moon.

We all had a lovely time.

ANNUAL GOALS

1. To maintain high-quality facilities to research, record, document and interpret the history, culture and environment of Melbourne's western region and make it more accessible to users.

2. To ensure that the social and cultural diversity of the region is reflected in community involvement in Museum programs.

3. To develop a larger community heritage resource through a Web-based network of local historical societies and researchers.

4. To integrate the concepts of art, culture and heritage in a cohesive program of interpretation and development for the Museum and Pipemakers Park.

5. To adapt partnerships with the Aboriginal community to continue the Museum's role as an Aboriginal resource.

6. To provide a sound financial base and on-going operation, with a capacity to generate a substantial proportion of earned income.

7. To increase awareness of the Museum's activities and products within local, regional, national and international contexts with particular emphasis on exploring the potential of the internet.

8. To give staff meaningful and fulfiling opportunities for professional development and provide opportunities for volunteers in Museum activities and training.

9. To confirm and build on the partnership between the Living Museum and local government in the region.

10. To maintain the standards set in the Museum Accreditation Program. (full accreditation was achieved in 1998)
