ROBERT CELESTE
My involvement with the Living of the Museum West began in 1995. In 1999
my first Museum project was working as a freelance artist with Helen Laffin
on, 'Hear Our Voices: Women of Melbourne's West'. Then my computer skills
in desktop publishing, IT (Information Technology) and sculpture were to
be used in other areas in the Museum, such as working with Olwen Ford and
Gary Vines, on the Brimbank Heritage project, and working with artist Libby
McKinnon on the Whittlesea mosaic project. At this time I am working with
artist Kerrie Poliness, using my sculpting skills with concrete to help
finish the pipestack construction.
My background: I was born in Williamstown. I have studied the arts and
in 1982 finished T.O.P. Arts, at Footscray TAFE. In 1985 I finished a Bachelor
of Arts degree at Victoria College Prahran, (major in sculpture, minor in
ceramics, drawing, photography and printing). In 1992 I began creating leather
masks for 'Commedia Dell'Arte' theatre. I completed an Advanced Diploma
of Art {Electronic Design and Interactive Media} in 1998.
With the mixture of skills that I have, the Museum has presented me with many
challenges, and a wide variety of areas to develop my interest
in the arts and in the Museum.
