HISTORY SOCIETIES
The Living Museum is a member of the Western Metropolitan
Group of Historical Societies, a group of 12 history organisations
in the western and northern regions of Melbourne. The work
of these societies is priceless and without them so much of
our past and heritage would be lost. Nearly all of the people
in the societies are voluntary and some put in as much time
as anyone in a full-time job.
The societies are Altona, Broadmeadows, Essendon, Footscray,
Keilor, Laverton-Point Cook, Living Museum, Melton, St. Albans,
Sunshine, Werribee and Williamstown. Each society has its
own meeting times and the group meets quarterly on a rotation
basis.
This year the Museum was working on a project of introductory
training of members in the mysteries on the internet, as part
of a longer range program of developing websites for all societies.
The project has been slower than we would wish for, due to
a wide range of competing demands and pressures. However,
we are all slowly entering the world wide web.
Meanwhile the endless research and preservation goes on.
As does networking with other societies in other regions.
The Western Metropolitan Group hosted the State Committee
Meeting of the Royal Historical Society of Victoria at Melton
in November. The meeting was chaired by Elaine Brogan, President
of the State Committee, Vice-President of the RHSV and a member
of the Management Committee of the Living Museum.
The Museum encourages anyone with time on their hands and
a feeling for history to contact the history society in their
area.
