Mouth
of the Maribyrnong
The
docks. I actually started my walk at Webb Dock, at the present
mouth of the Yarra. Before the area around Coode Island was drained
the Maribyrnong mouth was in a delta of marshes that reached the
bay. Sometimes it flooded and left billabongs in the Sandridge/
Port Melbourne dunes. The Yarra joined the Maribyrnong near Footscray,
forming a boundary between the Bunurung and Woiwurung tribes.
Neither the Yarra nor Maribyrnong mouth can be readily accessed
because of the docks.
